Bruno Mathsson armchairs

Elegant, functional, supremely comfortable, and as modern as tomorrow. A self-taught furniture designer and architect, Mathsson set about (in the 1930's!) perfecting chairs that gave optimum support to the human body. By 1940 his Pernilla lounge chair had satisfied his self-imposed brief.

This pair are the 1969 update, with the designer adding upholstered wool cushions over a canvas sling. The steam-bent beech frame is unchanged from his earlier versions.

Both chairs have acid-green upholstery, with stitch-tufted detailing.

Good vintage condition. Structurally excellent, with only light cosmetic wear. Some of their leather tabs require replacement, and the canvas slings are due for a clean. In good order overall.

A design seldom seen in Australia, from the man often acknowledged as Sweden's greatest designer of the 20th Century - and definitely our favorite.
